Traning Scholarships

As part of the Foundation's support for Aniplant in Cuba, a training scholarship programme has been established. The aim of this programme is to provide an opportunity, and funding, for one or two Cuba volunteer vets, who work with the charity, to come to the UK and undertake a 6-8 week period of training at DWR and other relevant institutions.

The first vet to participate in this scheme was Edgar Llorent Llano who arrived on 17th July 2012. Dick White first met Edgar in a 'make-shift' clinic which took place in the front room of a loyal supporter of Aniplant. This was in a tiny house in a deprived area of the city and, despite the extremely difficult circumstances, Edgar was conducting up to 40 sterilisations per day. He skills as a surgeon were immediately apparent and the barrage of questions was evidence of his thirst to learn and gain an international perspective. He was therefore chosen as the first recipient of a Dick White Charitable Foundation Training Scholarship.
