CPD for Cuban Vets

When Dick and Christine White made their first visit to Havana, they met as many veterinarians as possible and discussed with them their experiences and the problems they face. As a fairly isolated country, Cuba had not provided them with the opportunity for international collaboration that is afforded to vets in most countries.

In order to address this problem, when Dick returned to Cuba in April 2012, he was accompanied by his veterinary colleague Aida Gomez Selgas and, between them, they gave a 2-day conference for Cuban vets. They were staggered to find that almost 200 vets arrived, from all parts of the island. Some had travelled by road for 48 hours, from Santiago de Cuba.

The conference was a great success and the number of questions fired at Dick and Aida was further proof of the thirst for knowledge that exists within the veterinary profession in Cuba. Plans are currently underway for a second conference in April 2013.
