We are very proud to offer the largest privately funded internship and residency programme in Europe. Currently, we are training 8 interns, with the 4 newest recruits being enrolled in the post graduate certificate program at the University of Nottingham.

Our interns rotate through all departments and are the primary onsite veterinary surgeon during the night shift, supported by our team of Specialists. During clinical rotations they are fully involved in case management and work closely under the supervision of our senior clinicians. Training is given in both formal and informal formats. Each week, interns attend presentations given by the Specialists in each discipline. They also participate in journal club sessions reviewing current publications in the literature; and twice during the internship they give 15 minute presentations in the clinic which require a considerable degree of revision and preparation.

Intern applications are welcome from both UK and overseas veterinary graduates, with 4 positions starting in February and a further 4 starting in June. A high proportion of our interns have gone on to do further training of some kind (PhD, residency, research work) and has become very popular. From February 2014 the internship positions have become postgraduate studentships at the University of Nottingham , with training over the year leading to the postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Medicine. Currently we offer accommodation + a tax free student stipend. Applicants should have some experience of UK practice, be members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and for non-UK applicants an ILETS certificate with an average score  of 7.5 (no < than 7 in any area). The positions starting in June will be advertised in the Veterinary record and on our website in early February, with those for February being advertised in early October.

For further information about the internship program please contact Simon Tappin, who is the program director (st@dwr.co.uk).
